Who hasn’t dreamt of dropping everything, driving to the nearest airport and running off into the sunset? However, most of us know that we can’t just leave our friends, family and jobs, and jump on a plane every time we need a bit of R and R. However, we can pick up a book. Here are 5 reasons why it’s easier to buy a book than it is to book an air ticket:

Meet Wayne Zurl, Author of the Sam Jenkins Mysteries

Today I’m welcoming Wayne Zurl, but first who is he?

For thirteen of those years he served as a section commander supervising investigators. He is a graduate of SUNY, Empire State College and served on active duty in the US Army during the Vietnam War and later in the reserves. Zurl left New York to live in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee with his wife, Barbara.

His first full-length novel, A NEW PROSPECT, was named best mystery at the 2011 Indie Book Awards, is currently a finalist in the 2012 Eric Hoffer Book Awards and was nominated for a Montaigne Medal. Vampires and Romance Part II: An interview with Michelle Hughes

Last December I interviewed Michelle Hughes, author of A Night At Tears of Crimson and since then she has been unbelievably busy, so I asked her if she was willing to do a second interview with me to tell us what she’s been up to and luckily she said yes!

First of all, thank you so much Michelle for taking the time to come back here and chat with me. Since we last spoke you have done heaps of things including publishing another book, Eternal Crimson, which is now out as both an ebook and as a paperback. Could you tell us a bit about it?

Thank you so much for having me back again, Katheryn.  It's been a busy six months, and so much has been put into place that I just had to force myself to keep up.  Some of the projects I've been working on needed to happen immediately, and then of course the last book in the Tears of Crimson Vampire Series has a very specific deadline it has to meet, so that helped push things along.

Chasing Rainbows and Finding Success: Meet Bestselling Romance Author Kathleen Long

This weekend it is great to welcome another wonderful romance author, Kathleen Long. First of all Kathleen, congratulations on the huge success of your bestselling novel, Chasing Rainbows, an Amazon, USA Today and WSJ bestseller! Obviously you won’t want to give too much away, but for people who haven’t read it yet, could you tell us a bit about it?

Thank you, Katheryn! The past several weeks have been a humbling, exciting time in my life.

Chasing Rainbows is the story of Bernadette Murphy’s journey out of a life that’s stagnated into a life brimming with possibility.

Here’s the blurb:

What’s that saying about the devil you know? For Bernadette Murphy, it's the devil she never expected that changes everything. Her father’s sudden death leaves a gaping void in her life and is one in a series of events that rock her world. But with the discovery of her father’s book of cryptograms, Bernie realizes his encoded lessons in living may be exactly what she needs to survive.

When Bernie finds herself in trouble at home, out of work and banned from the mall after a confrontation at the cosmetic counter, she discovers what her father always knew. In life, you either choose to sing a rainbow, or you don’t.

For Bernie, the singing is about to begin.

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be interviewing Catherine Bybee on this blog!  First of all Catherine, congratulations on the huge success of your number 1, bestselling romance, Wife by Wednesday.  Without giving too much away, could you tell us a little bit about it?

Wife by Wednesday combines a historical romance theme; dashing Duke needs a wife to inherit his father’s wealth, and meshes it with a modern setting of a contemporary romance. A sexy hero and snarky heroine with a ton of honesty and this romance takes off.

How to Create a Great Book Cover

A great book needs a great book cover.  However, for many authors, like me, designing a cover that is even half-decent can be a frustrating challenge. Therefore, when I saw H. S. St.Ours stunning book cover mentioned on my page, Great Book Covers, and found out that he had done it all himself, I asked him if he was willing to share his expertise and luckily he said ‘Yes’!  Below is one of the most useful and inspiring guides I have read on how to design a winning book cover.  I hope you find it helpful too.

In Name Only - 5 Star Romance by Ellen Gable

I recently interviewed author, Philip Catshill, who talked about what inspired him to write the Mike Newman mystery stories.  In his interview he also mentioned the amazing power of prayer in his life.  Although Philip's murder mysteries don't have a Christian message, his comments did make me think that I should read more faith-based novels.  As a huge romance fan, I naturally went searching for some Christian romance and while I was doing so, I came across In Name Only, by Ellen Gable.  What attracted me to the book?  Not only is it an historical Christian romance, but it also won a Gold Medal for religious fiction in the 2010 Independent Publisher book awards.  Not surprisingly, on Amazon it has received an amazing twenty-one, 5 star reviews!  So, what are people raving about?

Murder, Ballet and God: An interview with Philip Catshill, author of the Mike Newman mysteries

Last September I did a blog post called ‘When Good Guys Go Bad’ about the mystery novel ‘Who Else IsThere?’ and today I am thrilled to be interviewing the author of the Mike Newman mysteries, Philip Catshill. First of all Philip, can I ask how you become an author and what led you to write your first book, ‘Who Else Is There?'

My original intention was to write a brief account of an accident and illness I had 30 years ago, and the eighteen months it took to get back to my work as a police sergeant. It was one of those serious illnesses where, at the time, the likelihood of living another 30 hours seemed pretty remote.

J K Rowling's doing it, I'm doing it, are you?

J K Rowling and I actually have a few things in common, such as the fact that we have both lived in Edinburgh and we have both taught abroad.  The latest thing that we now share is that we both believe in publishing our books as ebooks.  According to a recent press conference at the Victoria and Albert Museum (a great museum by the way - more on that another time maybe) J K Rowling said, 'I wanted to give something back to the fans that have followed Harry so devotedly over the years, and to bring the stories to a new digital generation.'

Basically, from October it seems like the whole Harry Potter series will be available as ebooks.  This is great news for all people who have gone into a bookstore to buy the one book that is missing from their collection only to find that it is the one book that the shop does not stock (I have 2 boys and this has happened to me several times - let me just say that there were tears).

Hopefully J K Rowling and I will continue to share many more things in common in the years to come. . .
