Today it’s great to welcome romance author, Angel Walker. First Angel, could you tell us about your debut novel, Such is Life?
Such is Life was actually a dream of mine. Literally, a dream about going to my ex’s wedding and my ten year class reunion. I took the main parts of my dream and ran with it. The main character Melissa Jones has to face going to both alone until her attractive and perfect for her assistant Brett Thomas steps in to tag along. Everything imaginable goes wrong on the trip, but Melissa keeps going with a smile on her face and a little bottle of vodka in her purse. That last part was a joke, but not too far off.
If your book was made into a movie, who would you pick to play the lead roles?
I’ve thought about this question quite a bit. I honestly don’t know who I would pick to be the lead role. The character is so much like myself trying to pick someone else to be her would be difficult. Now the men in the book, well, the list never stops. Matt Bomer has repeatedly come to mind, but I’m not sure what woman doesn’t think about him all the time. I’ve also though of Jared Padalecki a few times while writing.
What’s your next book going to be about?
The next book in the series is Such is Love. The focus
is all about secrets. Melissa and her gang of friends take a trip to Canada to celebrate an engagement (not Melissa’s). Everything between them all seems to
be kosher but everyone is holding in a secret that could rip their happy group of friends apart. Everything might look good on the outside but on the inside there is a storm bruin within them all. There is a third and final book in the series but that one I’m still keeping under wraps for right now.
Where does the inspiration for your stories and characters come from?
Besides the start coming from a dream I take a lot of
my own life and put it in my writing. In the second novel there is an incident in the hotel with the sprinkler system and it’s actually an incident that has
happened to me. So a lot of my stories come from life experiences or what I wish would have happened. As far as my characters, the females in the stories
are all based off of my friends and my favorite TV/movie characters. Korryn, Vicki, and Tracy are all friends of mine and their looks and the way the act
are very similar. I took a lot of first and last names of people I knew and threw them together as well. I will say that I WON’T do that again. People
don’t like it when you forget about them.
What are you reading at the moment?
At the moment I am not reading anything. I have been
trying to read Unseen by Karin Slaughter but time has not been on my side.
Who is your all time favourite author?
Karin Slaughter is my favorite author of all time. I
actually got to meet her once and I’m surprised I could shake her hand, my
palms were so sweaty. I felt like such a nerd.
What do you like to do in your free time when you’re not reading and writing?
Work, family and friends. That is what I do with my spare time. I would love it here soon to be able to do a little travelling but we’ll see.
